# Comment Insights

> What viewers say in the comments on your program's videos: questions about the app, sign-ups, “is this an ad?”, brand and competitor mentions, and a table by creator.

Comment Insights shows what viewers say under your creators' videos. It puts the most-liked comments first and tags the ones you act on: people asking what the app is, people signing up, people asking whether a post is an ad, and mentions of your brand or a competitor.

Find it under **Insights → Comment Insights** in the sidebar. (It used to be called Sentiment Radar under Tools; old links still work.)

> **Note: Paid plans**
>
> Comment Insights is included in paid plans. Free plans don't collect comments, so the page shows an upgrade prompt instead. See [Plans and limits](https://www.trackagoat.com/docs/guides/limits.md).

## Which comments we collect

Collecting comments costs a page load per video, so we collect them when they are worth reading:

- **When:** once a video is **3 days old**, when most of its comments have arrived, and while it is less than 90 days old.
- **Which videos:** videos where the platform shows at least **5 comments** (an org admin can change this in **Org settings → Comments**). The most-commented videos go first.
- **How many:** up to **100 comments per TikTok video** and 20 per Instagram post. The platform returns the most-liked comments first, which are the ones shown here first anyway.
- **Once more for big threads:** if a video's comment count grows by at least 50 and doubles after we collected it, we collect it once more.
- Your plan sets how many videos can be collected per day.

So the page shows a **sample**. The **What's collected** panel says how big it is, for example "of the 2,303 videos posted in this period, 859 have comments and we collected them from 327", the share of the platform's comments that is, and when comments were last collected.

---

## Filters

The Insights toolbar at the top applies to the whole page:

- **Period.** Comments are placed by when they were posted. The default is the last 30 days including today, in your organization's time zone.
- **Platform.** All, TikTok or Instagram.
- **Campaign.** One campaign, sub-campaigns included.
- **Group by** sets the buckets of the positive-comments chart.

## The number strip

| Number | What it counts |
|---|---|
| **Comments collected** | Comments posted in the period that we collected, with the share of the comments the platform shows on videos posted in the period. |
| **App questions** | Comments that ask what the app is or how to sign up ("what app is this?", "how do I sign up?"). |
| **Signing up** | Comments that say they are downloading, signing up or interested ("downloading rn", "just signed up"). |
| **Flagged** | Comments that ask whether the post is an ad or the creator was paid, or that use words like scam, fraud or unsafe. |

Select a number to filter the comment stream to it.

---

## Comment stream

The comments in the period, **most liked first**. You can also sort by newest or oldest, search the text, and filter by sentiment or by signal.

### Signals

| Signal | Means |
|---|---|
| **Flagged** | Asks if it's an ad, or brand-safety words (the two below together). |
| **Asks if it's an ad** | "Is this an ad?", "did they pay you to post this?", "#ad". |
| **Brand safety** | Scam, fraud, predator, unsafe, "report this". |
| **App questions** | Asks what the app is or how to sign up. |
| **Signing up** | Says they are downloading, signing up or interested. |
| **Mentions your brand** | Names one of your brand terms. With none set, your organization's name. |
| **Mentions a competitor** | Names one of your competitor terms. With none set, this signal is off. |
| **Pay and rates** | Talks about pay or rates ("$20 an hour"). |
| **Links and codes** | A link, a referral code, or "mention me when you sign up". |

Signals come from word patterns, checked by hand against real comments before they were shipped. They are deliberately narrow, so they miss some comments rather than tag the wrong ones. Brand and competitor terms are set by an org admin in **Org settings → Comments**, separated by commas; they match whole words and phrases, so "care" doesn't match "carefully".

Selecting a row in the **Creators** table filters the stream to that creator. Each comment links to its video's Comments tab and to the creator.

### Sentiment

Each comment is labeled positive, neutral or negative by a sentiment model trained on social media posts, with extra rules for TikTok comments: laughter ("lmaooo", 😂), short agreement ("so real", "literally", "same") and positive emoji count as positive. On a sample of hand-labeled comments it agreed with people about 3 times in 4, against about 1 in 2 for the word list used before.

Most negative comments are viewers talking about their own lives, not about the creator or your brand, so the page doesn't rank videos by negativity. Use the signals to find comments that need a response.

A comment collected very recently may show a word-list label for a few minutes until the model rescores it; the **What's collected** panel says how many.

---

## Creators

One row per creator with videos posted or comments collected in the period.

| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| **Comments** | Comments collected in the period. |
| **Per 1,000 views** | Comments per 1,000 views on the creator's videos posted in the period, from the platform's full comment count (not just the ones we collected). A rough measure of how much the audience talks back. |
| **Positive** | Share of the creator's scored comments that are positive. Shown once there are at least 20, so a handful of comments can't swing it. |
| **App questions, Signing up, Flagged** | Signal counts. |
| **Top comment** | The creator's most-liked comment in the period (links and referral codes left out). |

---

## Positive comments chart

The share of scored comments that are positive, per day, week or month. A bucket with fewer than 10 scored comments is left out.

---

## Weekly flag digest

Every Monday, org admins get one notification per project when, in the past week:

- comments were collected that ask whether a post is an ad or use words like scam or unsafe (the notification quotes up to three of them and names the creator and the video's date), or
- a creator's share of positive comments fell by 20 points or more compared with the 30 days before, with at least 20 scored comments in both.

Nothing is sent in a week with nothing to report. **Program Health** also shows an alert for flagged comments from the last 7 days.

---

## A video's Comments tab

Each video has a **Comments** tab with every comment collected for it, the sentiment split, the same signal filters, and when its comments were last collected. Before a video qualifies, the tab says when it will.

## API and AI agents

Everything on this page, a video's Comments tab, the weekly digest and the comment settings is available to API keys and AI agents:

- `GET /api/v2/projects/{projectId}/comments`: the comment stream, with the same filters. See [Projects](https://www.trackagoat.com/docs/api-reference/projects.md).
- `GET /api/v2/projects/{projectId}/comment-signals`: the numbers, coverage, creators table (rank it with `creator_sort`) and positive share over time.
- `GET /api/v2/projects/{projectId}/comment-flags`: the weekly flag digest on demand.
- `GET /api/v2/videos/{id}/comments`: one video's Comments tab. See [Videos](https://www.trackagoat.com/docs/api-reference/videos.md).
- `GET` and `PATCH /api/v2/comment-settings`: the minimum comment count and the brand and competitor terms. Like the settings page, reading and changing them needs an org admin.
- MCP tools: `list_comments`, `list_video_comments`, `get_comment_signals_summary`, `get_comment_flags`, `get_comment_settings` and `update_comment_settings`. See [MCP](https://www.trackagoat.com/docs/agents/mcp.md).
