How metrics are calculated

One definition for every number in trackagoat: tracked posts, views, engagement rate, follower growth, campaign totals and the default date window.

Updated Oct 10, 2026 · 4 min read

Every page in trackagoat (the dashboard, Insights, Program Health, campaign and creator pages), the API and the MCP server use the definitions on this page. When two places show the same metric for the same project and dates, they show the same number. When a number means something different (for example, views gained versus views on posts), it has a different label.

Definitions#

MetricDefinition
Tracked postA post with status auto-tracked, included or direct add, whose tracking has not been stopped, from an active creator and an active account. Posts awaiting review are never counted; pages show them separately as "+N awaiting review". When you remove a creator, their posts leave every live metric.
Default windowThe last 30 days including today, in your organization's time zone. Used by the dashboard, Insights, Program Health, the "Last 30 days" date preset, the API and the MCP server.
Views (on posts from a period)The current lifetime views of the tracked posts posted in the period. A post from last week that keeps growing raises this number.
Views gained (impressions)The views tracked posts gained during each period, from their stats history. Campaign trend charts show this as "Views gained". It is a different number from Views.
Engagement rate(likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views, summed over all posts first. A post with 10 views and 5 likes does not count as much as a post with 1M views.
Avg views / postViews ÷ tracked posts for the period.
Creators who postedActive creators with at least one tracked post in the period.
CreatorsActive creators in the project (or the campaign's member creators), whether or not they posted.
Follower growthMeasured per account: the latest follower count in the range minus the count at the start of the range. An account added partway through the range is measured from its first snapshot, so connecting a new account does not count its whole audience as growth. Accounts are then summed per creator. A loss shows as a loss.
Campaign totalsEvery video in the campaign, its sub-campaigns and its member creators, each counted once. A video in two campaigns appears in both campaigns' rows, but the Campaign Insights totals count it once.
Posts on TikTok / InstagramThe post count the platform shows on the creator's profile. It is not the number of tracked posts: it includes posts from before tracking began and posts awaiting review, and excludes posts the creator deleted. The creator page shows Tracked posts next to it.
Goal statusOn Track, Behind Pace (70 to 99% of the expected amount so far), At Risk (below 70%), Missed and Completed, the same on the Goals page, the dashboard and Program Health.

Comparisons#

Delta chips compare a period's posts with the posts from the previous period of the same length, for example "+12% vs posts from the previous 30 days". Both sides are lifetime views of the posts made in each period, so recent posts, which are still gaining views, can make the current period look lower than it will end up.

How fresh the numbers are#

View counts come from scheduled scrapes. Recent posts are rescraped every 12 to 48 hours and older posts less often (up to every 14 days). Pages show a line such as Stats as of 2h ago · 74% of these 2,246 posts updated in the last 48h · oldest 12d ago so you can see how current the numbers are. Program Health's Data Freshness tile is the share of the window's tracked posts whose stats were scraped in the last 48 hours.

A creator's views chart is built from each post's stats history. A tracked post with no history yet (for example a photo carousel waiting for its first stats scrape) is not in the chart, and the chart says how many posts that affects.

Payouts#

Payout amounts use their own rules (see Payouts) and are not changed by these definitions. Payout rows label the view counts they were calculated on:

  • Views at payout time (date): the views recorded when the accrual was calculated. The post's live views may be higher now.
  • Views since last paid: CPM structures pay for the views each post gained since it was last paid.

In the API and MCP#

  • GET /api/v2/analytics/aggregate/summary returns the headline totals above for a project, a campaign, or every campaign at once (campaigns=all). See Aggregate endpoints.
  • The MCP tool get_metric_totals returns the same totals.
  • Creator responses keep video_count (posts on the platform) and add tracked_post_count and pending_review_count.
